BRISTOL 1904 ARTS

Viv is a member and will be exhibiting here this week ,as well as in Clevedon with

North Somerset Arts .Double the chance to see and maybe acquire some of her work .She draws ,paints and creates textiles. So something may take your fancy.

 

North Somerset Arts Week

We are taking part in Clevedon and will be open each day from 10am-5pm.

We are sharing the space with others but we are the only textile group.

Refreshments will be available on the weekend, provided

by church volunteers.

We hope you come visit.

 

Mixed media assortment.

Debby had also created some quilt and go pieces but felt Fumi’s were neater. Just different ,much like our handwriting.

She had spent some time with her Mum who had to visit A&E .Not a place any of us would choose to spend time .

This little stitch journal gave Debby something to occupy her hands and mind while she was there,

and records the  blue of the cubicle curtains ,a feather and a new moon for the Chinese New Year.

She brought along some prints ,this Drypoint one of trees created at a Stoke Lodge class and using plastic as a plate.

Some collographs that she had tried on fabric but was disappointed they were very pale.

And finally her response to the monthly prompt.A collection of receipts and tickets stitched and used on a notebook cover.

 

Origami ,quilt and adornments.

Fumi continues to amaze with how much she gets done .The first images are of Quilt and go pieces ,with square above and more complicated and embellished hexagons below . Fumi tries not to buy any fabric but sources recycled fabric from various places.

Her origami pieces are very small and intricate but the one above using cellophane and cradling a tiny one left us in awe!

Fling pigeons and 

Butterflies. She has been doing origami since she was three.

She is beginning her stock for NSAW with these earrings . Apologies for the rubbish photo they are delightful .

She had also done the Susie Vickery workshop but was dissatisfied with the outcome .She felt she had put in too many lines ……we though it was fine .

 

Potential new member and Vietnam .

Kirsty came to visit us this month with a possibility of joining as a member .

She had qualified after studying for a print based  textile degree in Falmouth University .

She showed some samples of work she had in stitch ,ceramics and weave.She is in employment but since moving to Bristol has plans to revive her textile interests and is seeking out courses to help her get back into making.

Penny had been in Vietnam in November visiting the Hanoi Women’s Museum .She brought along some fabric samples of the Hmong bought while away .As usual we were blown away by the intricacy of the stitching .

She did respond to the prompt creatively using ephemerara picked up on her travels.

 

Colour palette match.

Janis had created this little pocket in response to the prompt ‘Ticket / receipt ‘She had used the lettering facility on her machine and some toning fabrics and braid to create the little pocket.

she brought  along a piece she had started on a Wendy Dolan workshop.She was dissatisfied with her colours ,feeling they were not working .

We thought it needed some additional colour ,perhaps in a complimentary to lift and enliven it .

The coloured fabric has been printed with Wooden Indian stamps which have been added to with machine embroidery. Perhaps she could embellish and enrich the surface with more hand stitching and maybe some beads.

She was also working on an Autumn inspired piece, appliqué leaves on a background to which she intends to add couching .

Kirsten has been sourcing more boxes ,she is very lucky to find them for a reasonable outlay.She had been working with similar colours to Janis not sure in what direction she wants to go . She had been toying with ideas about reticules used by women to keep personal items and keys safe .

Using organdie and inktense decoration she had made a tie on pocket .We felt it was too pale in colour and perhaps needed to be more sumptuous with rich fabrics and embroidery like the pieces in the box.

 

Various delights.

Sue had been busy sewing for her lucky grandchildren .She had used some very pretty and good quality fabrics from www.higgsandhiggs.comto to make some sweat tops .

She continues to progress her watercolour paintings with a line and wash course 

Creating these well executed buildings with stonework and achieving a realistic tree.

She had been away to Dubai and Yorkshire so had not done much towards her Sally Tyrie course ,apart from visiting Thornbury museum to purchase this book ,about the fishing industry in the River Severn.She was taken with the patterns in the nets used so we look forward to seeing how she incorporates them in her work .

Viv had been busy working on pieces to be shown at Centrespace in October .A glimpse of her Pearl Anniversary piece .

And a new piece celebrating the inspiration she found when stripping wallpaper.
