Sue H .

Sue found an old screen print made from one of her drawings that she had transferred to cloth with transfer paints.

She has been mixing colours she sees in her drawings and photos.

Sue's sketches of pebbles collected for her by family members. She requests they look for one with a hole as a souvenir of their holiday for her .

A selection of rubbings from leaves and stitching.

Kirsten .

Kirsten bought some Japanese fabric from World Textile Day in Saltford and is enjoying slow stitching the pieces together to make a lunch bag.

Fumi.

Fumi had taken a lino print workshop at Bristol Stitchers with Louise Nichols .She has added fabric  leaves and hand stitching to the trunk. She intends to create a series of trees ,one for each season.

The bird is printed on an old school blouse belonging to Fumi's daughter and is entitled 'spreading you  Wings'

More mini weaving to delight !
A frothy lager in a lager bottle top and

a slice of lemon in a tonic water bottle top .

And in a printers' tray more tiny weavings ;scallop shell , acorn cap , pistachio shell and over some sea glass .

November 2023

Sue D. is thinking of sewing the outline of the shell collected at Chesapeake Bay USA and  stitching a sea scene within the shell shape.

She has been busy with a variety of projects .This little book mark has been sewn on organza and looks good from both sides .The floral pattern is an Urban Threads design.

Sue also shared the birthday card she had stitched for her Mum.Who wouldn't like to receive such a personalised card sewn with love?

She had made this lovely notebook
cover ,the front has been machine stitched on paper Such an individual and useful ,reusable piece.

She had acquired a Richard Box kit and produced this below. We can often learn tips and tricks we can take into our own ideas.

She has been taking a course in painting with acrylics with Paul Weaver, see above and below.Sue may  use photos taken in America to inspire a new stitched piece.Often study of one  media enriches and enhances another.Aren't we lucky to be able to blur boundaries ?

Repurpose .

Sue is very keen to reuse rather than recycle so with this in mind had created two cushions with very different purposes .She had refashioned one of her late husband's jackets, cleverly keeping the pocket which could house a mobile phone, or television remote. It is also a very tactile reminder of the person it once belonged to and can evoke memories and give comfort.

She had also made the circular cushion from a sweater shrunk in the wash .This too has a second  purpose in that it houses a waterproof layer .She spoke of people who are sometimes incontinent which can lead to embarrassment ,having such a cushion might prevent unfortunate accidents on upholstery and the cushion can be thrown in the wash.

Her final item was a much loved but moth eaten woollen .She has gone with the current trend to draw attention to the mend ,celebrating the stitch with very different colour to the original .

Not our usual stitch related pieces but valid all the same.

Carol's adventures

Apologies but there seem to be no  pictures.Carol had been along to Westbury Wildlife park for their Fungus day where families were able to join in to create 1000 clay fungi. These were then left in the woodland as a trail to follow, such a lovely idea combining making ,walking and communing with nature. She had also happened to find a lovely but tucked away gallery /shop ......Trymside Gallery .One to seek out we think.

She had been doing Alexia's workshop on Temari balls with Bristol Stitchers. It was in two parts ,first using masses of thread to first completely cover the ball ,then the really intricate part where thread is stitched to create the very intricate pattern We await the finished article !

She brought along her Garden Birds which were difficult to photograph because of a dreary day .As usual she had undervalued her exquisite work ,we encouraged her to price them more realistically for exhibition. When you buy a piece they are not mass produced and are truly 'one -off' .
