Janis.

Janis popped in briefly to catch up .She brought along a coloured paper piece .She said it was based on a Victorian folded piece.

It opens to create a compartment inside .Janis had decorated it with a floral based motif.

She said it was quite tricky to achieve accurate folding as it is in thirds, “quarters are easier. It would be good developed in fabric ,using something like interfacing to stiffen it .It might help to achieve the folds and keep its structure.

Kirsten.

A piece of vintage textile which might have been used to inspire the colours in work Kirsten is developing for Centrespace.

She has been casting keys in Jessmonite

and stitching them to vibrant pieced silk.

Following her work with boxes in Prior she has another stash she might incorporate. We also thought the work might lend itself to being printed by Prinfab ,then framed into delicious little gems !

Viv

Viv had pieces in the 1904 group exhibition at the Red House in Bristol. She was delighted to have sold the sunset above ,as well as a second piece.

She has begun a new pastel drawing of some crocus above  ,
and below a new landscape.

This watercolour uses  a limited palette of five colours,Apologies for the out of focus image .

She has been exploring our theme of ‘HiddenGems ‘ for Centrespace in October.

She has used a variety of techniques and materials to produce these .

Coloured backgrounds ,machine and hand stitch as well as beading .

Sue

Sue had been exploring some ideas using shells. The soft blue works well to frame the scenes.

She had spent a day in Crickhowell at the studio of Lee Wright www.lee_wright.com

Creating a reduction lino print .We thought it was great and incredible to do all that in a day course and come away with prints of such a good standard !

She had sent some of her work to Prinfab for printing these are some detail from image below.

There are lots of fabrics to choose from and mobile phone images are so good these days

She took advantage of a ‘three for two ‘ offer and printed on organza to be able to explore what she can do with them .

Jenn

Her chosen theme for Centrespace is Fish ,so Jenn had fun creating some Collograph and tetrapak plates. She used some papers and gelli plate prints as backgrounds.

As Centrespace is GTA’s 30th anniversary we decided one of our pieces had to include Pearl in some way .Jenn has always loved Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring  ,and the fictional book by Tracey Chevalier of the same name . This will be developed.

She has been exploring ways she might create pieces of work on her chosen theme .Nothing resolved quite yet

Fumi

Fumi has been away so not really had time to be creating .However she brought this Japanese folded book she had made .

It is similar to the Chinese ones as demonstrated in the book above .

It is rather more decorative with origami flowers on the front pockets .
