More lusciousness.

Marilyn brought along these samples, above where she had increased the percentage of the blue ,I think,by 25% each time but keeping the weave the same.

She brought these two examples of different weaves ,which had been used to make large bags.

                    and this rather lovely rug.

Patricia and Carol had been along to a Quilters Guild workshop run by Janet Edmonds .

They had used Van Gogh paintings as inspiration, taking complementary colours to work with.

They choose different stitches to explore using thick and thin threads .

There is buttonhole,lazy daisy.cretan,couching

fly stitch,cross stitch

and many more. Can you identify them?

They make lovely samplers but just show that embroidery is very adaptable to do what you want.

They have rhythm

and texture

and pops of colour, and you don't have to stick to a design or use embroidery threads to achieve something DELICIOUS.

If you click on the image it should enlarge so you can see the detail.I've been shown how to upload them on my new computer instead of the I-Pad,makes for better viewing.

April meeting..........nearly May!

Busy week after the meeting meant I did not blog and upload the photos as promptly as usual. As we had the exhibition and all that went with it,travel ,stewarding and Easter we thought there would be thin pickings at this meeting. How wrong we were ,there was a great deal of interesting things to see and discuss. The example above, can you guess who did it ? It looks like a lot of alien tadpoles squirming about !

These came with Deryll and were exploring automatic stitches on her machine. The examples above are work done in the past, but below is a new version she has been trialling,in a very different colourway.

And finally Deryll had this tree, purposely mounted off centre.Lots of very fine French knots.

April post exhibition .

We were all present at the meeting this time.It was surprisingly full of new delights, surprising because we had been involved with the exhibition, and did not expect to see progress of new work.Spring sunshine cheered our spirits along with a review of a very successful and positive  time at Nature in Art.
Sally managed to capture this delightful picture ,while Jenn struggled to find the setting on hers !

Jane.

Jane brought this fabric she had been playing with.

It is reminiscent of her pylon work she did some years ago. Within the group,Jane is the one who is drawn to machinery and man made structures. Her work is very distinctive ,making full use of the technology available these days. However, she is not content just to use the technology but is constantly finding ways to bend it to her purpose.

New ideas.

There were a few new additions in amongst the work for the exhibition.Patricia had been on a course ,sorry can't recall where and with whom.It was about pushing boundaries and she had an interesting take on stitching.

We thought seeing it against the light made for an interesting piece.

Copper and enamel.

Sue ,who hosted the meeting, had unearthed some lovely pieces of enamelling  done some years ago.

These are quite small but these tend toward landscape.

This little tryptich could almost be stitch.

Again this is reminiscent of long stitches.

These four have such beautiful colours, some very rust like.We thought Sue could develop and incorporate them into a textile pieces .It is a shame to lock them away from sight.

March meeting.

As mentioned already the meeting was late and concerned with last minute plans to make the exhibition go smoothly. We still managed to chatter and see new things.

Debby had been to 'Cass Arts' in Park Street ,where she had picked up this book. There seems to be a trend for colouring books for adults as a means to beat stress.

This is one of the inside pages,we thought it would induce stress with its very precise lines to keep within ! However,it offers some inspiration for free machine embroidery and plenty of ideas to interpret.

March .

We met later than usual at Sue's.The meeting was mainly concerned with last minute things for our current exhibition at Nature In Art.
Kirsten,Jane and Jenn were there on Monday mounting the exhibition before it opened on Tuesday.
Here are some pics to tempt you to visit before it ends on April 12th.
