July.

Jenn had been dotting about working on several things.Above ,she had done the stitching on her Pearl piece but was undecided about a light ,or dark background.

She had discovered Lucia Leyfield www.lucialeyfield.substack.com and had signed up for her

Sketch your Garden course ,it has given her the push to keep looking and drawing especially in the recent hot days.

She has tried some new  techniques ,such as blind contour drawing and really enjoyed spending just small amounts of time producing vignettes.

She has continued to create machine embroidered fish

and created Collographs to print on paper and fabric .Now  it all has to be brought together into a coherent body of work for Centrespace in October.

Jenn

Jenn has been exploring ideas for her fish. She too has used her Gelli plate and made textures that might be used with fish outlines.A cardboard and tissue plate toying with an idea for the rhyme ‘When the boat comes in ‘

A ‘brace’ of free machined trout on disappearing fabric.

and more fish on a hand pieced background of silk.

Exactly how it will all come together is still uncertain.

Kirsten

Kirsten has continued collecting boxes ,she is so lucky in finding them.
The one above  has seen better days but with a little bit of TLC Kirsten intends to add some Perspex and fill it with prints of keys and more of her Jesmonite keys.

She has continued to work on her vibrant stitched pieces and made some tassels for the keys.

She also brought along this print of a pine cone .She has really enjoyed being part of Print club .

Viv.

Viv ,like Debby ,has made use of Prinfab to have several of her photos printed onto fabric.

They were taken in St Ives and Barcelona .

She has started to look ,using a viewfinder to isolate parts of the image .We look forward to seeing how this may develop a d how many pieces may follow .

She has also revisited the humble dandelion .A piece she did some years ago sold but having some hand dyed fabrics she has made yet another incarnation.

Fumi

Fumi had been making use of her Gelli plate to explore pattern and layering using plant material from her garden .These pieces are multi coloured but

she has also mimicked Cyanotype by a clever choice of colour.

For her Pearl inspiration for Centrespace in October she has chosen to stitch a piece representing Thirty years. She has precisely marked her fabric with squares ,one  and a half squares represent one month. it is so very even and such a simple but beautiful representation. The back is equally delicious!

Her husband plays golf and Fumi has taken a wooden tee ,apparently designed to be broken when hit, and crocheted a flag to fit .It is a play on Hidden as half the tee sticks in the ground and is therefore hidden.

She delights in using the discarded and has made a stitch book with envelopes we all get in the post. The patterns within add a certain charm, but Fumi’ precise folding is the real star.

June.

Debby treated us to a collection of prints this month .They have a new printmaking tutor at Stoke Lodge and she has been doing some classes.

They have been created on a variety of substrates, the bird on Tetrapak and the penguins on plastic.

Some of these   are older and were recently unearthed !

These were inspired by Anna Jeffries succulents and have been printed on fabric as well as paper.

Printmaking is so versatile and gives a lot of possibilities as these lovely examples show.

Janis.

Janis popped in briefly to catch up .She brought along a coloured paper piece .She said it was based on a Victorian folded piece.

It opens to create a compartment inside .Janis had decorated it with a floral based motif.

She said it was quite tricky to achieve accurate folding as it is in thirds, “quarters are easier. It would be good developed in fabric ,using something like interfacing to stiffen it .It might help to achieve the folds and keep its structure.
