Making progress

Viv has been working on her piece of patched and stitched fabric.

Everywhere you examine has delights, each little section some exquisite detail.

A lovely medley of technique.

She has also had some of her work turned into print. It is so good you really have to look hard to realise it's paper !

Delicious marks.

After our workshop back inAugust Patricia went away and cut up her made papers.

She chose beautiful little sections, full of the most interesting marks.

They were cut and mounted in a tiny sketchbook ,each one centred on a page.

Each is a little work of art and give plenty of inspiration to be taken into fabric and stitch.

Vessels and a cheat!

Ira showed us her work that is going to be made into 3-dimensional vessels. This top one has layers of paint and she has begun to stitch her customary French knots and sequins,as well as some meandering lines of stitched patterns. If you visit 'Miscellany ' at Bristol Guild you will see six absolutely stunning vessels on display.

Her next idea is a bit of a departure as she has found a wood turner local to her .She has produced some fabric pieces which will become an integral part of the wooden bowls.

Here is a close-up of the fabric she has produced.Lots of stitching ,beading and piercing to produce this frothy, lacy fabric.

She was unable to join us on the workshop day so did it herself at home.I forgot to photograph her sketch book but did capture some of her Eco- dyed fabrics.

These below are lovely showing the leaves she trapped in the fabric. She has begun working into the piece with some stitch

We were amazed at the colour she got ........then she let us into her little secret.

The imprints were there but not  very clear ,so she used some watercolour and added to them .....isn't that a clever idea.Carol, take note for your indigo, all is not lost!

Gifts and techniques.

Carol had been putting her sewing talents to use .She constructed a case for a tablet to give as a gift, using her customary appliqué and some delightful fabrics.

Who wouldn't be surprised and delighted to receive this "one-off"

Not one to pass up the chance to try something new she had been experimenting with ribbon embroidery.Exquisite as always.

She had been disappointed with the results of our indigo vat on our workshop day,the dye just washed away when rinsed. We think either it was too cold or a very bad batch,as noone had any good results. However,Ira had an idea what could be done to use this above.More later on this so stick with us.

About a week away.

We hope you will visit us at Bristol Guild.Lots of the work has been seen outside of Bristol but we thought we'd take the opportunity to let it be seen within the city.As usual lots of cards and gifts will be available as well as original works. You will be able to see and talk to the artists on the opening day from11-4 pm.
We look forward to welcoming you.
